Start with the incident and its effect on you

An injury can bring treatment, missed work and unfamiliar paperwork at the same time. Yale represents people harmed by negligence or wrongful conduct, with attention to their individual circumstances.

Explain when and where the incident occurred, what happened afterward and the questions that brought you to the firm. You do not need to determine responsibility or put a value on a claim before asking about representation.

Make the first conversation useful

Discuss the available records, correspondence and people who may have relevant information. Ask what needs review, how documents should be shared and what the proposed scope and terms of representation would be.

Keep medical information and a detailed account of the incident for that private conversation. The callback form is a way to arrange contact, not a place to upload a case file.

Bring what you have

• The date and location of the incident.

• An incident report or reference number, if available.

• Relevant letters and insurance correspondence.

• A list of records, photographs and other information already in your possession.

• Your main questions and concerns.
